Ernest J. Newborn II

Ernest J. Newborn II is an insurance brokerage executive with more than 30 years of experience helping publicly and privately held firms acquire, integrate, and grow their businesses. Currently, Newborn is senior vice president, general counsel, and secretary of USI Insurance Services, one of the largest insurance brokerage and consulting firms in the world, delivering property and casualty, employee benefits, personal risk, and retirement solutions to large-risk management clients, middle-market companies, smaller firms, and individuals. USI is one of the largest insurance brokerage firms in the world, with more than $2.7 billion in annualized revenues and more than 10,000 employees across 200-plus offices nationwide. Newborn helped to build USI’s national distribution system through the acquisition, consolidation, and integration of more than 400 insurance brokers and related businesses.

Elected to the board of USA Funds (Strada’s predecessor organization) in 2000, Newborn served as chairman of the board from 2009 to 2014, and began a second term as chairman in 2025. Previously, he served on Strada's Policy and Advocacy, Governance, Audit and Compensation committees.

Newborn started his corporate career at Elevance Health, formerly Anthem Inc., a multibillion-dollar health company. He was named vice president, general counsel, and secretary of Acordia Inc., the company’s publicly owned subsidiary, early in his career.

Until he assumed his current position with USI, Newborn resided in Indianapolis and was active in the Indianapolis not-for-profit community. He has received numerous awards for his civic and professional achievements, and he served as a member of the board of directors of the Jackie Robinson Foundation from 2018 to 2023.

Newborn received his bachelor’s degree from Drake University and his law degree from the University of Michigan.

He resides with his wife, Josie, in Chappaqua, New York, and Atlanta.
