Our work centers on five strategic focus areas. Each contributes to the support, collaboration, and alignment needed to make education-to-employment pathways more accessible and affordable for all current and potential students.
Taken together, our focus areas provide a holistic framework that can help students see the future they want, find their path forward — and get there.
Strada’s history dates to 1960, when United Student Aid Funds was founded. At the time, less than half of the U.S. population completed high school, and only 8 percent of Americans earned a four-year degree. Providing loans to learners so they could pursue a college education was considered one of the most effective ways to ensure more Americans could access opportunity.
In 2010, after the federal government ended the Federal Family Education Loan Program, USA Funds sold its loan assets. Then, in 2017, it used the proceeds to create Strada Education Network, a nonprofit organization dedicated to better connecting education to work.
In 2022, with a new strategic plan built around the five focus areas, our name became Strada Education Foundation to better reflect the nature of our work and the fact that we are a nonprofit organization funded primarily by an endowment.
The North Star that guides our work is to collaborate with learners, educators, employers, and policymakers across the U.S. to bring to life a postsecondary education and training ecosystem that provides equitable pathways to opportunity.
Our work centers on five strategic focus areas, each of which contributes to the support, collaboration, and alignment needed to make education-to-employment pathways more accessible and affordable for all current and potential students.
